Who is God? Is He the distant, untouchable King who dwells in unapproachable majesty? Or is He the loving Father who draws near to His people? Throughout history, people have often chosen one at the expense of the other. Some emphasize God's nearness so much that His holiness, majesty, and authority fade into the background. God becomes familiar, manageable, and comfortable. Others emphasize God's greatness and transcendence so much that He seems distant, unreachable, and detached from the realities of human life. But what if both views are incomplete?
At Mount Sinai, Israel encounters a God who descends in fire, smoke, thunder, and earthquake; a God so holy that boundaries must be drawn around His presence. Yet this same God is the One who rescued His people, carried them on eagles' wings, and brought them to Himself.
How can God be both infinitely beyond us and intimately present with us? How do we approach a God who is both terrifyingly holy and astonishingly near?
Join us this Sunday at 4 PM as we explore one of the most dramatic encounters in Scripture and discover why understanding both the transcendence and the immanence of God is essential for faithful Christian living.
We meet at 31 Atlantic Avenue!
